I Just Wanted to Frost a Cake~Mom Guilt

It's often hard when blogging to not get caught up in the beautiful pictures, the darling outfits, and the deliriously happy children. I wonder what I could be doing differently or what I could be doing more of. I know I try to measure up to some amazing ladies whose houses are always spotless and they seem to be perfectly put together.
The truth of it is, for me at least, I like to pick out the good. It helps me to be more grateful.
Today, I'm choosing to share something honest.
Miss L turned 3 last week. The only thing on my mind was to make the cake I want to have at her birthday party, a trial run before the big day. I'd done it with my sister, but joint efforts are different than being on your own. Woke up and got an email about a 40% off at Old Navy only for the day. Crap, plans just changed. Oh well, still plenty of time. I can totally make it work. We run big brother to school and head up to Old Navy. 2 hours later and more money than I'd like to think about was spent. Got home, tried everything on and realized I needed different sizes for the birthday girl. Literally fed the baby, picked up big brother and headed back to Old Navy. Still not showered for the day and it's 3:00. Not exactly how I planned, but we are just rolling with it. Luckily, I found all of the right sizes and on our way home we went. I made a quick cake and then ordered pizza. Fed the baby again, ate and started making frosting.
Of course right when I started the roses in my lightest shade of pink, chaos erupted.
The kids got out of the bath and big brother was teasing the birthday girl which made the birthday girl fall and roll into the baby. There was screaming from the baby who was startled, not hurt, crying from the birthday girl, and shock from the big brother who knew he was busted. Mr. J was trying to help except I'd just handed him the phone to talk to my brother. I'm sure I tried to blame him for something, maybe taking the phone that I handed him?
I started stressing. All I wanted to do for the day was make a cake for my daughter! Granted it was not a regular cake. It had to be made, then cooled in the fridge, put on a cake stand and frosted with rosettes.
I looked at my mom and with tears in my eyes said, "This is the first day I've really thought having 3 kids was hard. I can't even frost her cake." She understood. She took the baby. She calmed the kids. She took over.
I was frazzled. My hands were warm and the frosting wasn't holding. It was starting to soften. By the time I got to the darker pink, I was sweating and everyone knew better than to come into the kitchen. It was 8:30 and almost time for bed.
I decided to just frost the side since the flowers weren't holding.
From the picture above, you wouldn't have even known. It wasn't perfect, but it was a whole lot better than the whole picture.
Does that sweet face look like she's even one bit concerned that the darkest pink didn't come out? No, she's thrilled that she finally blew out the 3rd candle. She's loving that her whole family is cheering her on. She got to pick pizza for dinner and was called many times with cousins, aunts and uncles, and grandmas and grandpas singing at the top of their lungs wishing her a happy birthday.
For this small while in my life, it's not about me. It's about chubby fingers and teaching them how to make the number 3. It's about celebrating eating a full dinner. It's about finding the hugest leaf in the history of leaves. It's about heads poking out of the sunroof while we drive into the driveway. It's about painting outside on scrap wood. It's about convincing my kids that their clothes are awesome and they should start wearing them. It's about jumping off rocks, playing hopscotch, and learning colors. It's about learning, more on my part than theirs, and moving forward.
Let's hope the cake comes out awesome this weekend! I've bribed a friend to help me out!

Child to Cherish-Block to Grow On

I'm a mom who likes to remember the precious moments, the chub that is being put on, and the rate my baby is sprouting.
I wish I had kept a better journal, but instead I have a bunch of small notes from the doctor's office recording all of our appointments, growth charts, and developmental charts.
I thought some things I'd just remember, but let's face it, by the 3rd kid my memory is fading quickly. Time is flying by faster and the numbers are running together.
I wish I had gotten gifts for my other 2 children that were keepsake gifts.
I found the block to grow on from Child to Cherish. They carry a bunch of unique children's keepsake items.
I thought I'd get one for a friend with a baby shower coming up, but when it came in the mail I kept it!
Sorry Whit if you see this!
I fell in love with it and decided Bailey could really use something like this, instead of her spacey mother trying to keep track on post it notes!
Love at first sight!
The zebra is my favorite, so darling! From 1 month to 12 months, you get to record your baby's weight and height. You also get to put when your baby first smiled, when the first tooth appeared, when they took their first steps, and when they spoke their first word.
Bailey's block so far. In almost 3 months, she's gained 3 1/2 pounds and grown 3 inches. I'll get to write in more measurements in just a couple weeks. Her brother and sister love it! They keep earning/sneaking random change from around the house to put in the block for her.
I added her block to the dresser by her sweet sign that was a gift from Nichole, my cute hatbox that was a gift from my sister, and a musical rocking horse that is my mom's. See, I adore sentimental gifts, and love that I have something to keep track of Bailey. A bunch of those sweet and precious moments now get to have their place on the block to grown on.
You can keep up with Child to Cherish and all of their darling keepsakes here:

Easy Peasy Dinner #Strengthof1CA

We had a fun, packed to the brim weekend and are just getting back from driving to Huntington Beach to Tustin to Manhattan Beach to Huntington to San Diego and back home...with 3 kids!
The laundry is waiting to be done, flu shots were given this morning, and this mom is looking for an easy out.
I signed into my Just For U savings page through Vons and up popped this awesome coupon. If you are in Southern California, you can help make a difference in the fight against Breast Cancer. Until the 31st of October, Freschetta and Vons are offering a screamin' deal just in time for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Here's the deal- Save $5 on Flowers when you buy any TWO (2) FRESCHETTA® Multi-Serve Pizzas or FRESCHETTA® Artisan Crust.
To put it simply, the flowers at Vons are so pretty!
2 of my favorite things at Vons are the Guittard Chocolate Chips and the flowers!
(Typical Woman)
My husband has surprised me a few times with flowers from there and they aren't too expensive. $5 off flowers makes them pretty cheap if not free. I'm all about deals!

Join the FRESCHETTA® team to see how your efforts, both big and small, can add up to great results. Learn more about The Strength of 1 here. I am pretty certain many of you have been involved with or have read amazing stories about women who have fought the battle with breast cancer. When I was in elementary school, maybe 4th or 5th grade, I vividly remember an aunt that came to stay with us after her mastectomy. We lived closer to the hospital than she did and she needed to be close for follow up appointments. She won her battle and I can only sing praises when amazing companies, like Freschetta, donate money for such an important cause.

To take advantage of this great deal, you need to sign up for a Vons Club Card and Just For U. Both are really simple. I have saved a lot of money for being part of Just For U and a good amount of deals are catered just to me and what I buy. I have shopped at Vons pretty much my whole life and am thrilled to share this deal with you.

Danny & Kate Giveaway

The kids and I are so thrilled to bring you a giveaway from Danny & Kate today!
I have been looking for a way to sell some of Joe's smaller clothes. Let's face it, I have 2 little girls and "IF" I have another boy it won't be for a really long time. So it's no use hauling around tubs and tubs of clothes. I'm still keeping my favorites, but not everything. His clothes are in excellent condition, barely worn and name brand stuff. I could try selling at a garage sale, but I'd like to get more than .50 for a gap shirt with tags still on.
Here is where Danny & Kate comes in:

Join the "Blocks" centered around different ages, sizes, even favorite colors and animals. Danny & Kate then delivers the items you're interested in right to your Facebook Newsfeed, Twitter or your iPhone. Not only will you find some of the best deals on the web but you may just meet a like-minded parent who can share advice, stories or a smile with you!
Joe would love this found in the action figure block
Lynden would love this found in the tea parties block
And Bailey/I would love this found in the infant play block

Quick Birth Story & Pics

I have sat down so many times to write, and haven't found the words I've wanted to say.
I complained, was stuck in bed more days than I'd like to count, had numerous headaches, needed to be a close jog to the toilet at all times, felt limited to board games and Disney movies with the kids, and was on edge for 9 months.
Most of the time I missed nighttime stories with the kids and the guilt was horrible.
If I was in the room, I'd let dad read and I'd look up at the ceiling praying the nausea would go away for 5 minutes so I could love on the kids.
I knew that life would be easier on my body when she was born, but I really wanted my kids to enjoy mom time that they'd miss out on when a newborn came.
When the contractions started we left for the hospital.
The back pain was rough and it was harder trying to concentrate on the mommy questions being thrown at me that morning.
My doctor was on call that morning and told them to admit me.
If I didn't progress, she'd help the process along, which made me nervous.
The fluids were hooked up, I got the epidural and I progressed on my own.
Mr. J and I joked that maybe she'd have brown hair.
I pushed for 15 minutes and cried when she came out.
We also laughed because she did have brown hair.
I can't love her anymore than I do.
Isn't it funny how easily you forget and how empowered you feel?
I've taken my time. I've held her all of the time. I know that is breaking all rules for starting a routine, but I can't help it. I haven't been as stressed. I'm not second guessing myself as much. I don't take it personal if she cries. I know she must be trying to tell me something, whether it be to change her diaper, feed her, or maybe give her some space. I'm not ready for her to go to size 1 diapers. Her laughs, coos, and smiles melt my heart. I'm proud when the laundry gets done and even prouder when I make a new meal. She is getting kissed by brother and sister probably more than she'd like, but she knows we are all crazy about her. I'm ok with taking big brother to soccer in my sweats because that means all the kids have had baths that morning, have been fed, and taken care of. I'm finding less and less me time and more of them time. I didn't think I'd find as much fulfillment as I have in each day. I'm the "mommy girl" and I'm needed for homework help, potty help, and everything baby related. I love feeling and knowing that I'm needed.

Some Delightful Deets about Kim!

I had the pleasure of getting to know Kim last month and am so excited for you to get to know her a little better.
I'm a bit envious of her because she lives in New York City and I loved city life when I lived in San Francisco! I picture New York and San Francisco being somewhat similar!
I hope you will go visit her blog and say hi!

Delighted to Try this Fall
1) More DIY projects (repurposing fun things)
2) FALL A DAY (a similar series I did last year. I had an Apple a day series where I made various recipes with all the apples I got from Apple Picking)
3) Try some new fall knitting/Sewing patterns
About Me
1) At Singledou[b]t I blog about many things, but mostly about what I am learning in life, in my faith, etc.  I often blog about the projects I am working on such as my Tee to Tank Tutorial or Prayer Bracelet or in the kitchen.
2) One Word to Describe Kim: Responsibility
3) Kitchen: Although I haven't spent nearly enough time in there lately it is by far my favorite room.  I love to cook and experiment in the kitchen.  I am lucky, I have a pretty decent sized kitchen for New York City Apartment.  I should be totally utilizing it more.
4) In her free time: Typically I am working on some project, whether its knitting, sewing, organizing, etc.  If I am not doing that then I am hanging out with my roommate either at the park or in our living room watching a fun series or movie.  If not that then we are hanging out with our church friends over a good meal!
5) Perfect Vacation:  Heading somewhere that is not where I am!  Either a road trip or a destination vacation where I have the ability to put my phone and computer down and just eat good food, enjoy company, look at amazing scenery.  Just enjoying the presence of scenery and my companion (probably my best friend).
