Dress up your sandwich!

Hey there!
With Memorial Day, 4th of July, and sweet summer just around the corner, I thought I'd share a simple recipe to dress up plain ol' cold cuts!
We have family over a bunch
and it is a mighty big family that we belong to
so these are perfect!
{plus it doesn't take me away from the pool for too long!}
Here's the easy steps:
(makes 2-9x13 pans)
-any sandwich rolls (roll snob here-French's rolls work really well)
-mayo
-about 2 lbs turkey
-1 lb roast beef
-1/2 lb provolone cheese
For this part, you are just cutting the bread, spreading the mayo and loading it with turkey, cheese and roast beef. These are estimates of meat because I have brothers and a husband so I load the sandwiches. You might not need that much.
Ok, get your sandwiches made and heat the oven to 350.
For the "special sauce"
-1 stick salted butter melted
-1 1/2 TBSP. poppy seed
-1 1/2 TBSP. mustard
-1 TBSP. minced onion
-1 tsp. Worcestershire Sauce
Mix together and pour over sandwiches.
Let sauce sit until it sets a tiny bit.
Cover with foil and put in the oven for 15-17 minutes.
Seriously, EVERY time I make these everyone asks for the recipe.
I got it from a friend who used ham and swiss, but I'm a turkey lover so I switched it up a little bit.
Try it out! I'd love to know if do!
Secret sauce ingredients
I usually put 8 rolls in 1 9x13 pan, and make 2 pans
Smells so good!

Setting for a few minutes
 Dinner is served along with watermelon, blueberries, strawberries and a ridiculous variety of chips!
Don't you love summer?!
*If you get flimsy or thin rolls, the sauce almost makes the sandwich soggy when it comes out of the oven. I've tried a few different brands and French's holds up the best because the rolls are so thick*

Birthday Girl!

Yesterday was this lady love, Mrs. J's birthday......

We matched a lot and always had big bows on our little heads :)

I am very lucky to have a sister who has always been so sweet, loving, protective, and understanding. A relationship between sisters is like no other relationship. I am so lucky to have her in my life. She is such a great friend to everyone and is so good at keeping in touch with people. One thing that is different between us- she is very good with words. Her letters, cards, e-mails always make the recipient cry. Me- not so much. I am not very emotional... although I'm not great at sharing my emotions, I love her to death and couldn't imagine my life without her in it! So here's to a day totally dedicated to you! Happy Birthday Mrs. J! Wish I was there to celebrate with you!

Hoo are you?

NightOwlCrafting
1.  What is your favorite thing cooked on the bbq?
I LOVE when my mom bbq's roast! My sister in law showed us once and it is the best! Steak and chicken aren't too far behind :)
2. How do you celebrate Memorial Day?
Well, May is the month of birthdays in our family. My sister's was last week, mom's was Monday, mine Wednesday and my dad's Thursday. {plus a handful of nieces and nephews are all in May too} We seriously swim and bbq for what feels like a month and usually right around Memorial Day is the big party for Dad. We love it!
3. Do you like your handwriting?
Not really, it's ok, but if I'm really rushed or writing a quick reminder to myself I don't like it.
4. Do you still have your tonsils?
Yep, never had a problem with them...knock on wood!
5. Do you unite your shoes when you take them off?
I'm more of a sandals and heels type of girl, but if I go play tennis or exercise, then I for sure untie them before I take them off, but they usually go back in the closet without the left being on the left or right being on the right!
Thanks for stopping by!

I like Stripes

First off, I rarely buy clothing that is full price. Like Mrs. J. mentioned in an earlier post we both love a good deal. I don't shop as much as I used to but when I do I kind of set 2 rules for myself. I 1) have to LOVE what I am buying, I can't talk myself into it like all of us women do sometimes and 2) I have to have a coupon, it has to be on sale/clearance, or it can't be real expensive. I like the feeling of walking out of a store feeling like it was an accomplishment!

These days it is sometimes challenging to find a good quality, modest outfit, for pretty cheap. A lot of the unique stuff that fits me well and things I love come from my current two favorites- Banana Republic and Anthropologie... of course both stores come with pretty clothes as well as pretty big price tags. So when I spot things on sale or I have a coupon I get very excited! Recently I found this skirt online on sale, but I hate buying things online! It takes awhile to get to you, you have to try it on and then take the time to send it back if it doesn't work out. Lucky for me, I happened to stop into Anthropologie right around Valentine's and spotted the same skirt in store on sale in my size! (This was after digging through the racks of sale clothes they stuff into the tiny back room of every Anthro of course). I was very excited to wear this number out a few weeks ago and I got lots of compliments on it from friends, family, and random women on the street so I thought I'd share it with y'all. I'm sure for you sewers out there it wouldn't be difficult to replicate and you don't see many like it!

Shirt: Shade Clothing (sale), Skirt: Anthropologie (sale), Purse: Banana Republic (coupon), Sunglasses: Nordstrom

Necklace: Random boutique in CA, but also here with lots of other cute stuff.
Little Miss L shorts and top-Baby Gap {Wednesday 40% off coupon}, shoes-baby Vans, headband-Lyndi Lou and Brother-shorts and top-Baby Gap {Wednesday 40% off coupon}shoes-Kids Converse and Uncle Ben-a Lebron shirt :)
This picture is kinda random/not cute but I wanted to include the sandals which I got from Macy's on sale as well. Watch: Citizen (amazing sale at Macy's, couldn't pass it up).

All Day Today...

All day today is my baby sister's birthday.
She came just 2 years and 51 weeks after I did and I'm not sure why she didn't come before me.
I've always looked up to her and have wanted to follow her flawless example.
She has always been the stylish one,
made it through high school without developing an attitude,
{she's probably my parents favorite for that}
and somehow she manages to live in this little fairy tale bubble.
I'm sure life isn't always perfect, but she makes it through the challenges without breaking a sweat-literally!
She lives in Texas and I walk outside there and become an instant puddle!
She's hates confrontation and if there was ever a need for it,
the big bad sister came in!
All of my favorite childhood memories include her.
We had a blast being in talent shows together, flower girls at our big brothers weddings, pretending we were princesses, dress up, tea parties, making up neverending Barbie stories, bubble trumpets, cheerleading in high school, sharing everything especially clothes, and being the most devoted sisters.
We've always gotten along really well and I'm so grateful for that.
If this makes sense, we couldn't be more different
{I'm fiesty-She's passive, I'm fashion challenged-She could be the face of Banana Repulic/J Crew/someone you'd find at a polo tournament, yacht club, or the Kentucky Derby, I'm Mom-She's Nurse}
BUT
we couldn't be more alike
{We are family oriented, love reading, getting a good deal, being pampered, supportive of husbands who work long weeks, we like to bake and cook, and we love a good deal}
Mrs. H loves my kids as if they were her own.
I'm not kidding, she sometimes likes to pretend they are hers.
She will walk around the mall with them and take compliments as if they were to her.
I think it is probably great birth control for her!
She is the most amazing friend and I'm so glad all day today gets to be about her!
{just because I love celebrations, don't be surprised if I turn this into a week long thing}
Happy Birthday Sista Sista!

We're Back and Ready to Party!

Well I'm back, from Texas that is! Mrs. H's graduation was fabulous! We are all so proud of her! In the meantime while I'm sorting through hundreds of pictures, catching up on laundry and patiently waiting for all of our stuff to arrive {we just moved to California}, I thought I'd join in on one of my favorite blog hops over at Little Yayas! If you are visiting, welcome!

If it was me...

So, say I was one of the amazing followers or visitors of this blog, and I could enter this giveaway...
I'm swooning over this flower!
I'd wear it as a ring, put it on a cardigan and only if Little Miss L was super nice I might share and put it on a headband!

Love this necklace!
So unique!
Rolled rosettes are always needed...I feel like I can't get enough and need them in every color.
Gorgeous!
Talk about glamorous!
So in theory, if your Mr. doesn't have fireworks and a surprise trip to some tropical deserted island planned for Mother's Day {because let's face it, he might not}
enter and you can have a chance at picking your own gift!
Ends tonight at 11:59 pst
