Follow me back Tuesday

Photobucket

I was blog hopping this evening and hopped over to Little Yaya's just before the party started and read this post about her kids. Loved it! I could totally relate and feel that I'm doing great in some areas, ok in some and need to try harder in others with my sweet angels. Thanks for the inspiration!

A few of my favorite tutorials

I'm loving the decorations Mary Kathryn made for her friend's baby shower! The little silhouettes that can be used for a boy or girl shower are a fantastic idea! I love the colors and the decor and think her friend Courtney is pretty dang lucky! I can't wait until Mrs. H gets in the baby mood {hopefully after nursing school} and I can throw her a sweet shower!
Since I just did my St Patrick's Day craft with burlap, I'm kind of looking for more to do to use the extra. These fab pillows from Humble Homemaking get me so excited for Spring! They are so cute and I love the colors!
This headboard is amazing! I've seen it everywhere since she posted it! The colors, the trees, and obviously the headboard make for one pretty awesome bedroom! I don't think I'd want to leave, it looks like a great place for a mommy time-out, doesn't it?!
I love this plate wall, I love her dining area, and quite frankly I love her blog! I just found it and be ready because there's a little chair at the top of her blog that says, "sit and stay awhile" and that is exactly what you want to do! So while my husband is watching some survival show, I'm making mental notes of what I need to be doing next! Thanks Emily!
I'm in a stripe phase right now! I looked in my closet and my 4 new shirts were all striped, not that I shop a lot {Old Navy clearance, Gap~buy 1 get 1 free, and Kohl's sweet sale} So I wasn't too surprised when these adorable shoes caught my eye! I might have to go find myself some!
My mom says this to us all the time, and it couldn't be more true! Go check out how this looked before it was beautifully transformed over at Northern Cottage! Seriously, my jaw dropped.

I really like this wall of silhouettes over at Junkin' Junky. I would love to do a silhouette wall, hopefully my double chin will thin out soon :) Love it!

I love finding new ideas for parties, the home, and the seasons!

Lucky as can be!

I have been looking for a cheap, big frame that I could experiment with and I found one at Goodwill for $4! Woo hoo! Being that this was my first time there, I was pretty excited!
I took it home, sanded it down and painted it black. I also crackle painted it with cream on top, but because I'm so indecisive and didn't think it would look as good with what I had planned, I painted black again on top.
Skip this part if you have a silhouette or cricut. I got the idea to use carbon paper from Eat.Sleep.Create. and used the font Grenouille from dafont.com. I printed out what I wanted on carbon paper and yes...traced it onto burlap. I'm pretty sure there are easier ways to do this!
Tada...put the burlap in the frame, added a few green rosettes and we're good to go!
Here are a few of our "Lucky" decorations for St Patrick's Day! I'm proud to say I only had to pay for the frame {$4}, the green paint {.70}, and the fabric {$2 thanks to Joann's coupons} so a $7 project with some leftovers!

Our First Giveaway!

I'm excited to announce our first giveaway comes from my etsy shop Lyndi Lou Bowtique. A few weeks ago, I participated in a giveaway over at Night Owl Crafting, and was thrilled with how many people entered. Making affordable little girls accessories has become my hobby since having Lynden. I couldn't find crochet headbands for under $5 a headband and the flower with it could end up costing $12 or more. I knew with the different outfits she had, I could break the bank easily. So I started making hers, plus 1 or 2 more. Most of the listings you see in my etsy shop might be one of a kind or there are very few of them. This giveaway is for 2 listings of your choice {excluding the $18.50 hand crafted flowers} There are a few ways you can enter:
1. Tell me your favorite listing in my etsy shop {mandatory}
2. Follow Modern Wivelyhood {leave a comment for 1 entry}
3. Like Modern Wivelyhood on fb {leave a comment for 1 entry}
4. Like Lyndi Lou Bowtique on fb {leave a comment for 1 entry}
5. Heart Lyndi Lou on etsy {leave a comment for 1 entry}
Wow, 5 ways to enter! This giveaway ends Friday, March 4th at 11:59 pst.
ALSO, until March 12th, you can get an extra 15% off at Lyndi Lou with the code LUCKY15!

Something to Look forward to

For the past 2 years, there hasn't been a lot of wiveliness going on at my house. I have been buried deep in books, stressed beyond what I thought possible, had a few minor breakdowns, and have been running on little sleep. I majored in nursing and will be graduating this May!!! I am beyond excited and cannot wait to be done with school and live a normal life with my hubby.... this explains my posts or lack thereof.

Because of my schedule I have had little time to spend with my husband let alone develop or improve in any of my hobbies. But in May that will all change and I will be free to do whatever I want 4 days out of the week... (sigh).
Anyways, I have been married for a little over 3 years and have come a lonnggg way in the kitchen. Literally, I remember after a month of being married standing in the kitchen and asking Mr. H what he wanted for dinner, he replied "something with chicken." My husband is very independent and cooked for himself all the time before we were married, so he was surprised by my response with "ok, how do I cook chicken?" Seriously, who can't cook a chicken? Looking back I can't believe how unprepared and naive I was. So a few months later I started watching the Food Network (a lot) and became a huge fan of Barefoot Contessa and Giada De Laurentiis. Watching them actually taught me a lot! I soon went from not knowing what to do with a raw chicken breast to being able to follow a recipe quite well to actually putting together our own meals without any reference or guide (nothing fancy, but it still felt like an accomplishment)! I began to enjoy cooking and loved trying new things out for Mr. H. He was definitely loving it too. But once I got into my nursing program I slipped back into my old ways and cooking became the last thing on my mind.

Well, I am about to get right back into it and where better to start than a little shopping trip to Williams Sonoma! One of my absolute favorite stores! I love to try different kitchen products. My favorite purchase so far has been their KitchenAid Blender.
Mr. H and I blend a lot of stuff. We love to make smoothies and have tried out many different blenders. None of them have been as good as this one. It blends ice really well which was one of the annoying aspects of the other blenders. We've had it for over two years and haven't had a single problem with it!

Next on my wish list...

I have been eyeing this amazing Le Creuset cookware for quite some time. I haven't decided on which color, but I'm leaning toward their cream colored set.

and am desperately in need of some of these

This purchase isn't going to be made for quite some time, but right when it started selling at Williams Sonoma I knew I was going to need it
It is the Beaba Babycook Baby Food Maker. It steams, blends, warms, and defrosts all in one container. It looks so easy to use and would save a lot of time while providing your new little one with lots of fresh and healthy little meals. Williams Sonoma also carries a bunch of other fun products by the same company.

And with Spring just around the corner I think my door may need a new accessory like this one

It looks so fresh and clean. It is a little pricey at Williams Sonoma but I don't think it looks like it'd be too difficult to re-create a similar one... a project I may need to start soon!

And of course something for Mr. H.

He loves stir fry and I love to make it. It is so easy and tastes great everytime. I also love Breville products. This particular wok is normally $160, but it's on sale at Williams Sonoma right now for $129.95! A pretty good investment for yummy, healthy, and easy dinners that Mr. H loves. I usually just throw in some chicken, sesame oil, bell peppers, onions, and broccoli or carrots. Whatever I have on hand usually.

These will make my whole cooking experience more enjoyable and make the food taste better I'm sure :)

A few of my favorite tutorials...

I saw these and wanted to jump in the car {mind you it's 11:30 pm} and drive to get me some jars to spray paint. When I was excitedly reading through the tutorial {over at Madigan made} to see if this was Mrs. J proof, I see that she used spray paint! Seriously?! I think as long as I don't mess up the taping part, I might be able to do it! They turned out so fabulous!
Awesome, awesome, awesome! Love this garden themed room over at a diamond in the stuff! Little Miss L's room is garden themed and I will be asking Mr. J to build a picket fence sooner than later. Thanks Courtney!
I've got a few doorknobs and keys and love what I found over at Peppermint Plum. This wall makes me so happy! She also has some pretty sweet trunks to go along with them!
I hit the jackpot with this one! Thanks to Malory at Snips and Spice for these 10 great tips and tools to help with making cakes! I've wondered about freezing and leveling and loved this post!
Anthropologie is my favorite store ever {I know I'm not the only fan} and I love this fabulous shower curtain! I found it over at Refining Domestic and it's going on my to do list!

Found these little pretties over at The Sweet Survival and think Mrs. J and Mrs. H might need to make these for ourselves!

How cute is this from Eat.Sleep.Create?! Love the colors! Instead of using crackle paint, she used Elmer's glue! I love learning new things! Plus how cute are those flowers!

TGIF...It's a Social Parade

It's Friday and I'm so excited for the weekend! My mother in law, father in law, and brother in law are on their way to visit! So instead of jumping on the cleaning party train, I'm procrastinating and going to party for a bit in blogland here and here!

We go together like PB & J...

Or I assumed that's how easy married life would be! How hard could it be to juggle 2 jobs, church callings, cooking, cleaning, continue to be the social butterfly that I was, and enjoy newlywed life?!
Take the following picture for example: Ok, so cute idea...little I {heart} U PB&J for Mr. J, but did I really think that would fill him up with a few chips on the side?! Plus, after cutting it, he probably only ate 1 full sandwich or less. Remember in our "about us," I mentioned being clueless! He's such a good sport!
I was saved one day by an email from Epicurious showcasing a yummy recipe for shrimp scampi. I love shrimp and I love pasta and decided to tackle this cooking thing. I will mention that my mom helped me {over the phone} through every aisle of the grocery store and told me where every ingredient would be. Sadly, she's done this numerous times since. The recipe calls for white cooking wine and I had a mini panic attack wondering if I'd get carded-since I was a newlywed at 20-and crossed my fingers that my husband wouldn't have to purchase it. This recipe is pretty easy and so yummy. If you like shrimp definitely try it!
Ingredients
 Yumminess and the smell is even better!
Forgot to take a picture of the finished product somewhere in between trying to get plates for Cowboy, his best buddy, Little Miss L, Mr. J and a friend.
Here's the recipe:
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 lb peeled and deveined large shrimp (raw; 20 to 25 per lb)
  • 4 large garlic cloves, left unpeeled and forced through a garlic press
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried hot red-pepper flakes
  • 1/2 cup dry white wine
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3/4 lb capellini (angel-hair pasta)
  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley
Bring a 6- to 8-quart pot of salted water to a boil.
Meanwhile, heat oil in a 12-inch heavy skillet over moderately high heat until hot but not smoking, then sauté shrimp, turning over once, until just cooked through, about 2 minutes, and transfer with a slotted spoon to a large bowl. Add garlic to oil remaining in skillet along with red pepper flakes, wine, salt, and pepper and cook over high heat, stirring occasionally, 1 minute. Add butter to skillet, stirring until melted, and stir in shrimp. Remove skillet from heat.
Cook pasta in boiling water until just tender, about 3 minutes. Reserve 1 cup pasta-cooking water, then drain pasta in a colander. Toss pasta well with shrimp mixture and parsley in large bowl, adding some of reserved cooking water if necessary to keep moist.

Hide and Go Seekidee

This week Cowboy has given hide and seek a new name~Hide and Go Seekidee! I don't think he realizes that he's changed it, but it makes me giggle to hear the new name. I was folding endless piles of laundry and putting them in their places when I heard the kids screaming, laughing and Cowboy saying peekaboo! Here's my sweet boy trying to hide his smile with Little Miss L trying to take him down...
And here is Miss L getting ready to pop out from her oh so secret hiding spot {that Cowboy helped her get into with a bunch of soft pillows} I only wish instead of putting them under and over her, he would have put them to the sides since she's right next to our bed frame and her carseat! I'm now thinking I know where she got the little ouchie on her chin!

I'm linking up to this awesome party! Ah, I love the simple things, such as, a sweet game of hide and go seekidee!
